Autism in Adults

This post is clearly for just informational purposes only. Please get an actual evaluation if you believe you are on the spectrum. Did you know that Autism has evolved so much in the past few years? I often encounter adults that were never diagnosed with Autism but clearly show signs of meeting criteria. What are those signs?

Apart from the obvious: not being able to relate to social cues when having a conversation with others. Being too emotional or having strong emotions but not understanding them or where they come from. Having monotone voice even when upset or really excited.

Stimming: includes tapping of feet, messing with hands, messing with hair (when having long hair).

Having a meltdown: not your usual one of screaming and yelling and on the floor, more of just being unable to control emotions and crying.

Being the target of bullies because you were different.

Taking things very literal when someone is joking.

Not understanding sarcasm or it not making sense.

Being hyperfocus on something that you really enjoy.

Getting overly in to "special interests." Example: liking cars and knowing makes and models and engines that they have.

Lastly, one that many dont often realize is being in a conversation and one clearly no longer is interested and the person with autism continuing the conversation without realizing the other is completely uninterested any longer.
